Caffeine Withdrawal

One of my goals for the new year is to be completely off of caffeine.  I have been working on it for the last two weeks and sometimes I feel like this:

I just get tired of feeling like I'm addicted, you know?  Have you been successful at reducing your caffeine?  I would love to hear how you accomplished it!  If I get too much or too little caffeine, I get a headache.  In the mornings, I feel like this:

until I get my caffeine.  So, if you hear some moaning and groaning coming from here:

It's not the zombie apocalypse, it's just me wishing for more diet coke.  I've really cut down and hope to be done with this in the next couple of weeks.  I'll keep you posted!  I would appreciate your encouraging thoughts coming my way!  Don't forget my 2013 calendar giveaway, you can enter

  1. Hi, Jean! Have you tried the half-caf coffees? I know Folgers and Maxwell House have them. They have 1/2 the caffeine. (Keurig makes a Half-caf pod, also). It is an easy and rather painless way to wean yourself off. I did about 1/2 of a can of that Half-caf coffee, and then when I got to that point, I took the rest of the remaining can and mixed it with an all decaf coffee. When that was done, I did/ do all decaf now, and it truly was pretty painless and I did not have headaches. Pepsi and Coke make caffeine free drinks, and water is good, of course, too!!! GOOD LUCK with this. It does take some time. I know my Blood Pressure is happy I did it!!

  2. Hi Jean,
I had to give up caffine a year ago, because I got a swollen lymh node under my arm from drinking too much caffine. So I had to go off of it cold turkey...all at once. It was rough for a few days with headaches.
    Good luck with this journey.

  4. Jean, I quit all caffeine about 15 years ago and never looked back. I used to do a pot of coffee in the morning and then diet pepsi all day long. I just stopped one day and switched to water and water is still the only thing I drink to this day. I never went through the headache part, so maybe caffeine doesn't affect me that way. Good luck with the challenge. I know black licorish helps get rid of the caffeine cravings, so maybe have a little on hand to snack on.

  5. Hi Jean. Good for you! It makes such a terrific difference in your health. I cut back my caffeine too, two years ago. When I felt an afternoon headache coming on, I drank a mug of Lipton's green tea with lemon/ginseing (they have great fruit flavors to choose from). It has a small amount of caffeine, but it helped me wean myself off it over a week or two. Love your blog. Thx!
